rare good review almost made her cry

Sandra Bullock is finding her year in the sun. The actress, who says she doesn’t usually read movie reviews, is seeing not only box-office success this year, but also acclaim at the Golden Globes. Of reviews, she said she doesn’t read them “because they’re usually bad, because of the films I like to make,” she told the L.A. Times. “I like to make what I like to make, and if I read how badly I’m talked about, I might change my direction. For that same reason, I can’t look at the good.” But she broke her own rule recently and was pleasantly surprised. “I saw a quote the other day — I sat there and I thought I would cry. I’m overwhelmed that someone would say something that nice. And I said, for that reason, I must shut this off. It caught me off-guard,” she told the Times. Posted by Joanna

Golden Globe nod may raise Rockport profile

Rockport shined on the silver screen masquerading as the quaint, seaside village of Sitka, Alaska, in this summer’s box office smash hit, “The Proposal.” “Proposal” fans quickly discovered where the romantic comedy was shot — Motif No. 1, though veiled in Alaskan decor, may have tipped off a few — and many of them soon inquired about the town. Now, another wave of interest may be on the way. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association brought the film back to the forefront yesterday with a Golden Globe nomination for its lead actress, Sandra Bullock. The 45-year-old actress received nods for best actress in a comedy or musical for “The Proposal” and best actress in a drama for “The Blind Side.” “I am beyond stunned,” Bullock said in a statement. “I will cherish this moment with all the artists I have worked with behind the scenes, who truly make me look good.” The movie, which also starred Ryan Reynolds, Betty White, Craig T. Nelson and Mary Steenburgen, was this summer’s first big romantic comedy hit. The film took in $33.6 million to open as the Hune 19 to 21 weekend’s No. 1 movie. At the time, the flick knocked “The Hangover” from the top and delivered the biggest opening ever for Bullock, nearly double that of her previous best of $17.6 million for the 2007 paranormal thriller “Premonition.” Best known for her roles in the films “Crash,” “Speed,” “Miss Congeniality” and “28 Days,” Bullock was on Cape Ann for extended period of time in April 2008 filming the “The Proposal.” Posted by Joanna

Sandra Bullock’s Husband Is Jesse James
December 21st, 2009 | 3 Comments

By now everyone knows Sandra Bullock’s husband is Jesse James. Although they seem like an unlikely pair the two have been together for years. The tattoed and handsome Jesse James lead quite the colorful life before becoming Sandra Bullock’s husband. Many people find Sandra and Jesse to be an odd couple. Sandra seems so wholesome and Jesse looks like the opposite. But you can’t judge a book by it’s cover no matter how much ink is on it. I’ve dug up some pretty interesting stuff on Jesse James. Jesse James started out as a body guard for heavy metal bands like Danzig, Slayer and Soundgarden. James opened West Coast Choppers in his mother’s garage in 1992. The company grew quickly and soon moved to a larger facility for select customers and companies. About 200 bikes have been built at West Coast Choppers, they also sponsor race teams in Top Fuel Drags and Super Late Model NASCAR. James recently bought custom car business Austin Speed Shop and has expanded into the custom car business. Jesse James also races an off-road Trophy Truck and a Figure-8 race car. Jesse’s former wife Janine Lindemulder, was a porn star. They have a five year old daughter, Sunny, together. Janine recently lost a custody battle and Jesse and Sandra have been raising the child since January of this year while the adult film actress was in prison for tax evasion. She served six months in jail and was released in July. In court papers, James said he was determined not to let his ex-wife gain custody of their daughter because he feared Sunny would be introduced to a dangerous world if she lived with her mother. He also stated that the child was not supervised during the day because Janine was “asleep from drug use.” Posted by Joanna

A bonanza year for Sandra Bullock

Golden Globe nods for ‘The Proposal’ and ‘The Blind Side’ cap a year in which commercial and critical success has marked a turnaround from recent misfires. Could an Oscar nomination be next? Is 45 the new 25? Maybe, if you consider the career of Sandra Bullock, who this year pulled in the biggest box office bonanza of her career, powering both the romantic comedy “The Proposal” ($163 million domestically) and the inspirational sports drama “The Blind Side” ($150 million and counting). On Tuesday, the films also earned Bullock, a perennial audience favorite, double Golden Globe nominations — one each for lead actress in a comedy film and a drama film — giving her a legitimate shot at her first Oscar nomination. Bullock has company in the double-laurel category with frequent Golden Globe contender Meryl Streep, who was nominated for her performance as a happy divorcee in “It’s Complicated” and as chef Julia Child in “Julie & Julia,” and Matt Damon, who received nods for his work in “The Informant!” and “Invictus.” Yet for Bullock, the nominations cap a year in which her commercial and critical success has marked a turnaround from some of her more recent misfires — “The Lake House,” “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous.” None of which Bullock allows herself to follow too closely. Just days before the nominations were announced, the actress noted that she doesn’t usually bother to even read reviews, “because they’re usually bad, because of the films I like to make. I like to make what I like to make, and if I read how badly I’m talked about, I might change my direction. Posted by Joanna

Stunned by Golden globe nominations

Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock was “beyond stunned” to find that she has got two Golden Globe nominations and has her idols Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep in competition now. The 45-year-old actress received the nominations for Best Actress in both the Drama and Comedy or Musical fields for ‘The Blind Side’ and ‘The Proposal’, respectively, Contactmusic reported. She’s up against the likes of Mirren, Streep, Emily Blunt and Julia Roberts – and is delighted to be in such prestigious company. “I am beyond stunned. Just to be included in the company of these amazing women I have so admired through the years, has left me slack jawed with awe,” said Bullock. “It is truly an honour just to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press, and I will cherish this moment with all the artists I have worked with behind the scenes, who truly make me look good!,” she added. The Golden Globe Awards, hosted by British comic Ricky Gervais, will take place on 17 January in Los Angeles next year. Posted by Joanna

Bullock could land her first Oscar nod

It’s the sleeper hit no one saw coming. The Blind Side has amassed almost $150 million. Last weekend, it even charged past the seemingly unstoppable The Twilight Saga: New Moon. For Sandra Bullock, the surprise success could well translate to her first best-actress Oscar nomination. Why? Because not only is it the sort of showy, fact-based role Academy voters tend to reward (Erin Brockovich, anyone?), but Bullock is also having one of the best years of her career. This summer, The Proposal crested to $300 million in worldwide box office. Posted by Joanna

Weekend box office report: Bullock rising

When I was a lad (warning: grumpy old man rant ahead) movies would get released in key markets first –a few hundred theaters at most –then spend months rolling out through the hinterlands, gradually reaching a mass audience in second- and third-run houses. Back then, the release pattern and subsequent grosses for each movie told an individual story: Whether it was oversold in early release, whether it performed solidly and acceptably over the long run, or (the most-desired outcome) whether it “had legs.” “The Blind Side” has legs, and they ain’t Sandra Bullocks’. In today’s multiplex marketplace, where the standard — no, only — release pattern is to carpet bomb a movie on thousands of screens and hope for one good weekend, the inspirational football/family drama finally clambered past “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” to claim the No. 1 spot in its third week of release. “Blind Side” saw a weekend gross 50% less than the previous (Thanksgiving) weekend but still made $20 million, enough to ensconce it firmly over the $100 million mark. “New Moon,” by contrast, fell another 63% and is now coasting on repeat business from teenage girls obsessed with Taylor Lautner’s abs — a major market niche, but still. Among new releases, the melodramatic family squabble “Brothers” managed an okay $10 million at 2,000 or so theaters — it might have done better if “Blind Side” weren’t offering strong competition in roughly the same genre. The heist film “Armored” made $7 million, quite respectable considering this stalwart little B-flick wasn’t screened for critics and was barely promoted. At least it did better than “Everybody’s Fine,” the new Robert DeNiro family drama — ’tis the season but enough already — which sank with a $4 million sigh at 2,000 theaters. Some other notes: The Jason Reitman/George Clooney dramedy “Up in the Air” opened at 15 theaters on a wave of great reviews to an excellent $79,000 per-theater average; it goes wide on Christmas. “Precious” finally halted its expansion into more theaters and promptly lost 67% compared to the previous weekend — I was wondering where the wall was for this movie and here it is. And Box Office Mojo reports that vampire-high spoof “Transylmania” now holds the record for lowest-grossing new release at over 1,000 theaters, with a positively toothless $272 per-theater average. Fun trivia of the week: “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” has made $150 million to date and still isn’t profitable. Only another $50 million to go. Maybe if Jim Carrey went house to house with a cup. More grosses from Box Office Mojo and Leonard Klady. Posted by Joanna

Sandra Gets A New Look

Be careful what you say to George Lopez! When Sandra Bullock appeared on the comedian’s new show earlier this week, she casually said, “If I could do anything to become more Latina, I would do it. It hasn’t happened yet.” Well, sooner than she could finish her sentence, George took her up on the proposal and gave Sandra as a “chola” makeover. When Sandra emerged, she donned thicker eyebrows, big hair, an over-sized plaid shirt, baggy pants, dark lipliner, heavy eye makeup, and large hoop earrings. What a transformation! This is funny, but we like normal Sandra better. This is one makeover that shouldn’t be repeated! [Image courtesy of TBS.] Posted by Joanna
