Donald Trump is friends with Jesse James and Sandra Bullock — working closely with Jesse on Celebrity Apprentice 2 and appearing in Sandy’s film Two Weeks Notice — and tells Star that Jesse’s alleged cheating scandal is “a real mess.”

“I’m very surprised, especially because I know Sandra and how nice she is,” Donald tells Star. “She’s such a great person. And what surprises me even more is he always gave me the impression he was totally in love with her.”

Adding: “It doesn’t change my image of him, but I thought he respected Sandra and loved her.”

It was actually while Celebrity Apprentice was on the air last spring that tattoo model Michelle ‘Bombshell’ McGee — who has a side job as an Internet dominatrix — claims the affair began. She said in April 2009 she emailed West Coast Choppers — his custom-made motorcycle company — to pursue modeling opportunities. Jesse himself replied to her inquiry and a week later they were having sex on his Los Angeles office couch.

“Jesse did something very foolish — obviously,” says Donald, who notes that Jesse was a “very smart” contestant but “very argumentative” during Celebrity Apprentice. “I think it’s very unfortunate. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors? But I can say this Sandra is a high-quality person and I respect her tremendously.”

As for the new report that Sandra packed up and left their family home in Huntington Beach, Calif. on Monday, Donald says: “If she moved out that’s not a good sign. I even joked with Jesse on The Apprentice: “What the hell does she see in you?”
