Sandra Bullock is finding her year in the sun.
The actress, who says she doesn’t usually read movie reviews, is seeing not only box-office success this year, but also acclaim at the Golden Globes.
Of reviews, she said she doesn’t read them “because they’re usually bad, because of the films I like to make,” she told the L.A. Times. “I like to make what I like to make, and if I read how badly I’m talked about, I might change my direction. For that same reason, I can’t look at the good.”
But she broke her own rule recently and was pleasantly surprised.
“I saw a quote the other day — I sat there and I thought I would cry. I’m overwhelmed that someone would say something that nice. And I said, for that reason, I must shut this off. It caught me off-guard,” she told the Times.
The actress, who first gained fame in the action movie “Speed” in 1994, is finally — at 45 — having a stellar year.
Her romantic comedy “The Proposal” raked in $163 million, and the sports drama “The Blind Side” has made $150 million so far.
In addition, she received two nominations for Golden Globes this week — one each for best actress in a comedy and a best actress in a drama, leading to speculation about her first Oscar prospect.
Of being in the company of the likes of veteran actress Meryl Streep, nominated for “Julie & Julia,” she said in a statement, “I am beyond stunned. Just to be included in the company of these amazing women I have so admired through the years has left me slack-jawed with awe.”

The Blind Side is in Top 10 for the successful movie of 2009. Congrats Sandy, you’re still on the top for me. Too bad, it’s not yet shown here in the Philippines. Can’t wait to see it.
sandra will always be an inspiration!
thank you for being you!
I hope this is a good place to say how much I’ve admired Sandra Bullock’s acting for years, and the choices she’s made in films. Like most movie goers, I suppose, I think my taste is pretty good, so I’ve been irritated when another actress in Sandra’s generation is so over-appreciated and Sandra is ignored. That’s not going to happen anymore, I think. Brava!
When Proposal came out. A group of us moms in the neighborhood got together and went to watch the movie. Our comment “We fell in Love again” Thank you for keeping it real and down to earth. I have a great story for you, I hope some day I can tell it. A lot of us that come from another state feel the same way about the state I live in. Thank you for inspiring us!
who cares shes hot always has been
Very good movie
Ms. Bullock- Thanks for making such a great family movie. Unfortunately these days there not many movies that a family can watch togeter and enjoy. The world needs more movies like the “The Blind Side” that touch peoples hearts and souls. The Big movie executives need to understand that more of these types of movies need to be made and you deserve all the success that you receive from this movie. God Bless You & Your Family.
I am delighted for you Sandra! You are such a role model and a wonderful personality. I’ve always enjoyed watching your films. You’re really growing as an actress. You have a right to be proud but your humility is one of your strengths. Great flick!
So enjoyed the “Blind Side”. I have always enjoyed Sandra Bullock’s movies. I think she is a wonderful person and so appreciate the fact that she seems to have very high morals.
Sandra Bullock is a class lady whose acting becomes more seasoned with every performance. Not only that, but she has a good heart and a generous spirit, as evidenced by her gift to the latest disaster in Haiti. More of Hollywood should look up to her example of a fine human being, instead of many behaving dishonorably and being arrogant.
Sandra thanks for being such a wonderful, down to earth person! I enjoy all of your films — CONGRATS, much deserved!!!
Sandra, I saw your movies and I liked you as an actor. I saw your interviews and I liked you as a person.
